What kind of bird do you have?

For most exotics right now it's the middle of molt season. My Greenwing, Katie is full of pin feathers, and Rio is just finishing his.

Contrary to what another poster said, your parrot can go through several molts per year, at least mine both do with the change of the seasons (or really wierd weather...depending)

They'll discard old feathers as they're growing in new ones. You'll find little fluffy feathers all over the place too.

If you see him pulling feathers out of one spot, consistently and it becomes obsessive THEN you have a problem. If he's cleaning all of his feathers over all, you're in good shape.

If you need help, email me at screen name sdkramer76 at yahoo. We can exchange phone numbers and I can answer your questions by email, instant message or I can call you. I know a couple of great behaviorialists, so if I don't have answers for you, I know the people we can get them from.

Good luck!

Birds moult once a year, this is normal and they dont look naked. If it is only one feather each day this is normal. Does the bird look neat and tidy or do the feathers look broken? A bird that is sick or plucking often has a messed up look. A clue to know if the bird is moulting is pin feathers on the bird. These pins are feathers covered by what looks like a plastic cover which the bird will remove to reveal a new feather. If she is tame she would like you to scratch the ones she cant reach on her head.
Pin feathers = moulting = normal.

no it is a sign of stress or perhaps a skinproblems or mites see a avian vet and give the bird more attention and buy a preening toy thatswhat i believe would work the best.

No! Its deff. not ok...either she is bored....or she is stressed, or she feels like she isn't gettin enough attention...perhaps it lost its mate...you said you inherrited it? maybe the bird misses its owner...they tend to be lifetime partners...
