I woke up at 6:30 this morning to the static sound of my baby's monitor - like it was picking up some interference. Just before I opened my eyes, I felt as though something or someone was holding me down; like I was being kept from rising. I would describe it as if someone was lying on top of me. I felt goose bumps and a bit disoriented.

I have had astral projection before (again waking up at approx. 6:30), but this time I don't remember the travel (if in fact it was an OBE). What gives?

Another consideration is it could have been sleep paralysis due to a frontal lobe seizure. I've had one of those before and one of the common symptoms is feeling like you're being held down, or that you're paralyzed. Frontal lobe seizures often happen just before you fall asleep or as you're waking up. They're actually quite common.

No, I don't think that would be astral travel, at least not in the usual form. (Then again, I suppose that everyone else feels something different...)
I think that in astral travel, you would have had some sort of experience that you knew of just before you woke up. I also thought that astral travel had to be induced.
As far as something holding you down, I can't tell you what that could be. I can say that you were probably imagining things, or something along those lines, since you had just woken up.

When did you start thinking that this was astral travel? If the idea came into your head after you had thought about it for a while, then it probably wasn't...just your mind trying to find answers. If when you woke up this morning, you had some sort of notion that it was astral travel, then it may very well be.

That sounds more like sleep paralysis than astral projection.

You have had a mild sleep paralysis. You are lucky that it was not worse as they can be VERY scary and envolve visions!
