If you buy a box of butter, it usually contains 4 sticks - that is a pound. You can also buy a box of butter (the same size as the 4-stick box) but it only has one giant block of butter in it - that is also 1 pound.

If you are still unsure, check the box and it should tell you that it is 1 pound.
