Sacramento is technically an international airport (but the only other country it has flights to is Mexico). It is the closest *mid-sized* airport to Lake Tahoe on the California side.
San Francisco is the closest *major* international airport (with connections to Canada, Mexico, South America, Asia, Europe, and Australia).

The closest airport is eother Sacramento or Reno there is no international airport in Lake Tahoe.

Prob Sacramento, smaller planes fly into Tahoe from all over too. Denver might have connecting flights

the closest worldwide airport in California is in Sacramento. Why not fly into Reno, Nevada? in case you have your guy or woman plane you may fly into Tahoe. yet once you had your guy or woman plane you may understand that.

reno is the closest airport but no international flights but can connect you to LAX, DFW, SFO, DEN, LAS, PHX, & ORD.
