You can use the whole 13 hour ahead way, but I think this is the best way ( I am an american living in NZ) New Zealand is one day ahead of the states and central time is 5 hour ahead. So if it is 12pm on Wednesday central time, it is 7am Thursday in NZ. I find it much easier to do it this way. This is only in NZ summer. Durring NZ winter, Cental time will be 7 hours ahead, a day behind. This is beacause nz sets their clocks behind, and us sets their clocks ahead (daylight savings).

As I remeber when travelling around New Zealand in Februaury, the kiwi's are 12 hours ahead of British time. Then when the clocks go back an hour in March Kiwi's are only 11 hours ahead of the Brits. They go forward an hour again in October bringing them back to 12 hours ahead. hope this helps.

October - March - 12hours ahead
March - October - 11hours ahead
