Seeing as how most americans are bereft of any moral fiber, maybe our only hope is immigrants.

The reason why some Immigrants come here is to make money so that their family can have a better life. So in my opinion that is a great value. Sacrifice for the family. Does it benefit America? Probably not but if more americans valued their family as the immigrants do maybe there wouldnt be so much domestic violence or homeless people, or old white people in retirement homes or skilled nursing facilities.

Considering they break the law to get here, they are only hurting themselves in the long run,why dont they make there own government listen? Instead of being slaves to corporations??? Many do. But Most third world illegals come to the U.S. for personal economic reasons. Most do not come to cherish our democratic system. Many so called "immigration rights" groups "fan the fire" with their rhetoric which encourages immigrants to preserve their culture and language at tax payers expense. Among some of these groups, the word "assimilation" is considered xenophobic. When ultimately illegal immigrants and/or their children do become voting citizens, many vote in blocks (Mexican-American, El Salvadoran-American, Guatemalan-American, etc.), not for the good of America, but for personal economic gain usually at the expense of another group.

My grandmother came to Elias Island when she was 17. She was the best Italian cook ever and I loved her and she was an immigrant, and I think she benefited America.

Most certainly! For one thing: Hard work and good work ethics. For another diversity and with it knowledge and understanding of other cultures, some of it good, some of it bad, but all necessary for us, the US, to navigate a world that is more and more global, whether we like it or not!
So many more values as well! A closed culture tends to loose interest in others, be satisfied with what they have without thriving for improvement, and risk to become arrogant. They also miss (by lack of interest or by arrogance) the progress other cultures make, and they risk to find themselves behind in many ways.
So welcome to immigration. In the past, today, and in the future. These "hungry" immigrants keep us on our toes in many valuable ways!

One would be a strong work ethic. They come here for the purpose of finding jobs to support their families. Therefore, there is also a strong sense of responsibility to their families.
