I only use it 3 times a week for about 50 minutes. Our energy bill is way up and Im trying to figure out if its from the treadmill or our heat use (which would surprise me because my feet are numb right now, we are nazi's with our heat usage) I guess my big complaint is that Im wondering if it would be cheaper to have a gym membership if its costing me so much to have a treadmill -or do I just have to accept that our house is poorly built (its a new home and has a huge cathedral cieling on the lower level. It looks cool but it might be the heat-eater too) Anyway, just wondering if anyone knows because I can't find the answer by doing my usual google search.

It depends on the treadmill. Some of the better ones have up to a 3 horsepower motor. To use it 3 times a week is roughly 143 kilowatt hours per month. Check your electric bill to see what 1 kilowatt hour of electricity costs. For example, if a kw hr of electricity is 12 cents, your treadmill would cost about $17.16 per month. If it has a 1 horsepower motor, the cost would be about 1/3 of that, or around $5.40 per month. If you unplug the treadmill between uses it should make a small reduction in your bill.

If the cathedral ceiling doesn't have a fan in it, it may pay to put one in. It will keep the heat down from the ceiling to where it is useful. It should help reduce your bill.

A treadmill can use about 150 dollars worth of energy so you shouldn't use it to often.
