I have a 3 month old brindle chihuahua who is absolutely beautiful. He has the most playful spunky personality ive ever seen in a dog. I bought him because i've always wanted a chihuahua but now that i have him i am getting really interested in the breed. Is it possible to show a dog that is CKC registered or not? If so, what is a good age to start training for this, and where is a good place to go.

Sorry, but the C(ontinental)KC is a registry created to give puppy mills & backyard breeders banned from the AKC a more laid-back (read here: less ethical) place to 'register': http://www.petpeoplesplace.com/resources/articles/dogs/014-05.htm

If you are truly interested in performance showing (obedience, agility, flyball, etc), you can apply for an ILP number (a limited registration) with the AKC - this is NOT for breeding or conformation showing. Also, consider joining your closest local Chihuahua club chapter, where you will meet the reputable breeders who can help guide you - find at www.akc.org

Continental Kennel club means nothing. Isn't worth the paper it's written on. They'd give you papers for a goat!

Sorry but if your serious about showing, attend some shows, talk to some breeders and then buy a ACK or CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) dog. This is not cheap though, you may be interested in getting in with a couple of breeders and getting them to show you the ropes and teach you things and then you could explore being a handler before investing in your own dog. Just a couple of options.

The dogs in user-friendly words must be totally registered with the AKC, (no longer restricted).. in the adventure that your papers have a purple border, its advantageous. If the papers have an orange border, your dogs is on restricted registration and won't be able to be shown. The dogs should be a minimum of 6 months previous. The dogs should be intact. The dogs ought to no longer have had any surguries to regulate his visual attraction. The dogs can no longer have any disqualifying features or exhibit aggression. verify the breed known for DQ features. They dont seem on the pedigree for showing.. you've a three gen pedigree on your possession, yet files would properly be traced farther decrease back than that if the dogs is registered.

Continental Kennel Club is nothing more then a scam registry. It is one set up by irresponsible breeders in order to make people believe they have a registered dog when in fact they do not. They are a registry that registers dogs that can't be registered in a legit registry or because the owner/breeder is suspended from doing business with a legit registry. "papers" from this club are worthless not worth the paper they are written on.

They do not have a "show circuit" like the legit registries..AKC, UKC (united Kennel Club) or CKC (Canadian Kennel Club)

The Cont. KC does have some shows. They are few and far between and mean ZERO since there is not enough people and good examples to make it mean anything. It would be a waste of time and money. They seem to be pretty much "performance" events. Go to the website and see the "breed standards". They are a JOKE. One paragraph at BEST.

Next time get a dog from a real breeder registered with a real registry.

YO!!! Canadians!!!! We are NOT talking about the CANADIAN KC here OK. IT is the CONTINENTIAL KC we are discussing!!!

If you're referring to the Canadian Kennel Club, then yes. Check with your dog's breeder, if your dog is show quality they will be happy to help you out, if he isn't then they will save you from wasting your money.

If you mean the Continental Kennel Club, then no. The ConKC was developed simply as a registry for puppymills and BYBs who don't even meet the AKC's minimal standards.

Lol I'm Canadian and a show my Dobes, they have Can championships. As long as your dog is CKC reg or AKC you can show in both places and receive 2 different Champion titles. It's a little easier to receive a Championship in Canada because the points work different. The CKC web sit www.ckc.ca will give you a list of shows in your area. If you would like info on how the points work and how to prepare send me an e-mail.
Good Luck

Continental Kennel Club registration is worthless. I could register my cat as a "breed" of dog as long as I had two people to sign the paper.

They do have shows, but again they have no merit.

Even if the CKC (I assume you mean Continental and not Canadian) has shows, they don't mean anything. If you want to show the dog in AKC shows, you will need to get an ILP number (see www.akc.org). Getting an ILP requires certain steps - information from vet, pictures and the dog has to be neutered. Obviously, if he is neutered, he can not be shown in conformation events.

The CKC does have shows. Check out http://www.ckc.ca/en for more information.
