Google the sentence "Simple assault punishment in" (your state).. All states are different. I'm not sure about where you are but here in North Carolina it depends on what level of assault it was. Domestic violence, assault on a female, or same sex violence all carries different punishment. It also depends on how much damage u did to the person. If it was just a few bruises it won't be as bad as a few broken bones.

As with any criminal charge you are introduced to the criminal justice system. I believe in most states it's not the most serious crime, however it's not the least. If convicted you could face possible jail time, or even probation. One thing to consider is with that conviction comes possible restitution, and a record. Later down the line that could be a problem with employment. Most jobs now want to know if you have ever been convicted of certain crimes which could cause you not to get the job.

Usually, being charged comes with standard conditions like keeping a certain distant from people, places or things (phone/computer).
assault is usually treated as a serious crime
