No. Straight teeth are not a nightmare. My braces stayed on 20 months and yes it was worth it. My speech was very slightly affected. I was 49 years old and not too old.

Braces are not a nightmare. A lot of people think they are a nightmare - but would you rather have crooked teeth or straight teeth? Most people prefer the appearance and are attracted more to straight teeth.

When braces are put on, you are placed on a program. Some people have braces for only a year - some people have braces for 3-4 years. It depends on the condition of your teeth. You can always see what orthodontists in your area offer free consultations.

Braces will affect your speech at first - but not badly. You learn how to speak with them. When you get them off - it will affect your speech once more, but again - not for long. (And running your teeth over the smoothness again feels fantastic!)

Having braces is worth it. I had them for 31 months. I even had to have rubber bands and headgear. It wasn't entirely fun, but when you consider the end result, you will be more than pleased! (Of course, just make sure that you wear your retainer afterwards, so that the bone growth can fill any gaps below your gum line.)

Don't quote me on age limits - I honestly don't think there is a real "age limit" as to when a person is unable to get braces. An orthodontist would be able to tell you that better than any average person. I was a teenager when I got braces, so there was never that question to consider for me.

How long your braces stay on depends on you. If you are an adult, you will probably only have one set of braces. But as a child, you get two sets. And you have to do exactly what the orthodontist says in order to get them off earlier. One set usually lasts 2-4 years but usually 2.

Yes, it does sometimes affect your speech, but only make you sound like you are saying a cuss word when you say "sit". When your mouth hurts, you can't talk right. It's weird, but you won't go through dramatic changes in speech.

Yes, it is worth putting them on, but they are pretty expensive. Mine were $5,000 because I was just a child when i got them on. Plus, I've been going to the orthodontist since I was 6 and I am now 13!

You're really never too old to get braces...it shouldn't matter if you have braces or not.

I'm sure that you've hear a lot of horror stories about braces, and I'm sorry to say that some of them are true. They dry your lips out, your teeth ache, and it cuts back on those steak and potato dinners for awhile, but in the long run it's definitely worth it. Your orthodontist will tell you how long your braces will need to be on depending on the amount of movement that your teeth will need. Each case is different. Sometimes you'll notice that you talk a little bit different when you first get your braces on but, like anything else, the more you practise, the more natural it gets. Pretty soon you won't even notice that they are there. It's really never to old to get braces, and if you want a perfect smile they are totally worth it. I think that teeth are something that everyone notices and obviously your smile is something that you've been thinking about improving on. I would find a good orthodontist in your area and get some price ranges, find out what they recommend for you and start there. I hope that you get the smile you're hoping for.

Well it all depends on how bad your teeth are. I had to wear mine for only 3 years, and it was well worth it because now i have a straight smile. Yes it does affect your speech a bit, sometimes you spit when you arent actually trying to, but that only happends to some people who have braces. It's never too old to get braces....well I don't think so anyways. I just recently saw a 50 year old with braces.

they aren't a nightmare... when you are younger they hurt less, and when you are older they hurt more. My student and his mother both got braces at the same time... When i had braces the dentist used a cement to hold on the braces and then a wire went onto them and they were secured with small rubber type bnads. They don't really effect your speech, the hurt the most the first few days, or when you get a thicker wire. Also what can effect your speech is when they use rubber bands on the top and bottoms so that you can't open your mouth all the way, of course the rubber bands are removeable. It all depends on what extras you get with the braces.

i have braces and mine have been on for 3 years now. but the time that they stay on vary from case to case, depending on how bad your teeth are. the average is about 2 years. mine were only on so long because i had some crooked teeth, a bad over bite, and crowding. i even had to get 4 permanant teeth pulled because my mouth was so crowded. i get them off in 2 months. they don't affect your speech but when you get a retainer after you get your braces off that can affect your speech. but you dont have to wear the retainer forever. it is worth putting them on because you will be very happy with the result. they don't hurt until you have to wear rubberbands and when they get tightened, but other then that they're fine. if your out of college i would reccomend getting clear braces because of appearance. but that doesn't really matter because you will be glad that you had it done no matter what age. Good Luck!

Braces are not a nightmare. they do hurt a little though...but usually only after you get them tightened. It really all depends on how crooked your teeth are to determine how long they stay on. I just got my top braces off about 3 weeks ago and i had those on for two years. i still have my bottom ones on though because they were more crooked. i have met some people whose braces affected their speech a little bit, but that is pretty rare. they are worth getting on because you're more confident when you get them off because you have nice, straight teeth. Personally, i don't think you are really ever too old to get them on. Unless you're like, 70...but that's different. I know some people who had braces when they were in their 40's and my dad (who is 47) wants to get braces after my bottom ones come off. i hope i helped your decision!

It is defiantly worth it to get braces.
To answer some of your questions if you have head-gear you might have a slight lisp, but that won't be too bad since you would probably only have to have the head-gear on when you are at home.
It depends on how bad your teeth are for how long they will stay on, most of the time you would only have them on for 1 1/2- 2 years, but they could be on for as long as 3.
The final thing that I have to say is USE YOUR RETAINER! My friend didn't and her teeth shifted out of place and now she has to have braces AGAIN!

depends, for me it was i think about 3 years but so people can be way shorter or way longer, just depends how bad your teeth are. they never affected my speech but i know they can....but if they did that would only be for the first couple of days that you got them on i would like to think. yes! it is so worth putting them on! best decision of my life! nah, kidding but seriously it really does a lot of good! you're never too old! though some people may start to think when you get past about 25 or so, though a lot of people won't notice them anyway.

hope this helped!
