As a useful rely, the IRS runs a application that asserts, hm, if Joe filed as single without dependents and no credit, could he have been due a reimbursement or no longer? If that's needless to say a reimbursement, the IRS would not spend postage on telling you to document and could technique the subsequent year's return no situation. in case you seem to owe, they at last get around to sending out letters inquiring for the return. They flag the account and in case you document a yet another year's return, might carry that refund till you document the lacking return. (I say at last because of the fact i've got considered the IRS forget this difficulty for 2-3 years and then flag anybody for a carry the fourth year.) in case you extremely want to renowned, call and ask for copies of the W-2 to be despatched to you.

You can try calling 1-800-829-1040 and asking them. They may have attached your refund to an outstanding government debt (student loan? taxes owed?). Or it is very possible that the check was undeliverable and that it was sent back to the IRS. Many people dont realize this but there is thousands of dollars in unclaimed refunds that go to waste every year because taxpayers are too afraid to ask the IRS where their refund is.

You need to file the current year return, even if last years is held up for some reason. I suggest pulling last years returns (state and Fed) and calling the agency for each and they can tell you where your refund for 2005 is. They may have gone to a wrong address and been returned and they just need to remail them to you. Good Luck

Call the IRS. Chances are you missed the deadline to be able to claim refunds for the previous tax year.

Call the IRS and ask them. It might just have gone to a wrong address, or you might have some outstanding debt that it got taken for. They should be able to tell you.
