Both are blessed with impressive tropical beaches. The people both have similarities in their physical features which makes it harder to tell them who's Thai? and who's Filipino? not unless they start to speak.
I find Bangkok mysterious as it seems to showcase the power to make both Religion and Monarchy blend in the new which makes Thai character and culture stand out. And, to this day remained unconquered. Impressive structures!!!
The Philippines is composed of 7,107 islands in high tide and 7,108 in low tide. The Filipino is basically of Malay stock with a sprinkling of Chinese, American, Spanish, and Arab blood. With the long history of Western Colonial rule. The Filipino character is actually a little bit of all the cultures put together. The Spaniards introduced Christianity (the Roman Catholic faith) and succeeded in converting majority of Filipinos that made them the largest Catholics/Christians in Asia. And, from the Americans, the English language. The Philippines is the third largest English speaking country in the world.

The Philippines vs. Thailand debate fills up a lot of travel message boards and the opinions can be pretty varied. They really are two entirely different countries and its kind of like comparing apples to oranges. I have been to both places many times and love them both, but for different reasons. That being said, Thailand really has become "the beaten path" with droves of "backpackers" flocking there every year. There really is almost nowhere you can go in Thailand anymore and not see someone else doing the exact same thing you are. The Philippines is a lot more raw and untouched by mass tourism (with the exception of spots like Boracay) making your experience there a lot more unique.

I am a Filipino, who has done a lot of travelling and have been to Thailand. One major difference would be is that it is so easy to find your way around the Philippines as most folks understand and can speak English -- even in the far off barrios. Labels & directions on grocery products are in English, so are menus. While Thai food itself is fantastic, the Philippines has soooo many choices (we love to dine!) of cuisines -- from regional Filipino to fusion to French gourmet.. If you're into culture, the Philippines is more diverse -- we have highland tribes, Muslim tribes, indigenous tribes (like the Aetas and the Mangyans). We have a cool mountain resort town like Baguio (where I live) that gets foggy and has temperatures that can reach 8 degrees, and fantastic beaches in the south. With 7,107 islands to explore, even a Filipino like myself cannot get enough of this country.

I am Canadian and I'd been to both countries. I find the beaches in the Philippines less crowded and Filipinos speak good English. I almost had a heart attack in Bangkok when I ordered a food and asked for a non-spicy and the waiter gave an authentic Thai food.
