Most Christians, of any race, have NOT read the ENTIRE Bible. They depend upon their preachers to guide them, and the preachers carefully avoid many passages. A smaller flock would mean less money in the collection plate.

African's weren't the only slaves. Many cultures were enslaved by other cultures and their own culture. Religion is man made, spirituality is Godly. Once you know the truth and have a personal relationship with God it's up to you how far you want to take it. Some people are very expressive and wear their religious beliefs on their sleves. Our history as Africans is one that started with worhip and praise to God during slavery. Our faith in God was all that we had to keep going. God is what kept my ancestors alive when they faith was being tested the most. While we were picking cotton we were singing and praising to God for better days. One may not understand this logic, but when dealing with matters of God and spirituality there is not logic. Many people get caught up in religion and all the man made rules because it's hard to determine what is truth and what is not. The bible is all you need to know what's real, not man made religion.

and who was Noah to condemn anyones children. Only God has that privilege. Many Christian religions got fat on the slave trade. It shamed the world. Go to Africa, to the West Coast. Go and see the slave museum in Juffure in The Gambia. See James Island where this proud people were held worse than animals and by who. Not by their brothers in Islam but by the "White masters." You ask for no racist answers and I applaud you for that but to condemn muslims for this is bordering in racism. Like all other people in the world there were some Africans who sold their countrymen "down the river" but how do you know they were Muslims?

African Americans as a group are no more or less religious than anyone else.
We like most other groups who have had long enslavement's, do tend to follow the beliefs of those who were our masters.
I choose to honor my ancestors by choosing what religion I would follow instead of walking in the path beaten out by my parents and their parents.

Good grief, how bad a stereo-type that is.
Some African Americans are very religious--and some are not. Just like any other HUMANS in this world.
There are religious and non-religious within the Jewish tradition.
There are religious and non-religious among those who were raised in Christianity.
I am certain that there are religious and non-religious in every race, ethnic group, age group, economic group, etc.

There are very religious people of all races. African Americans may appear "so religious" because most of us are very expressive through our song and dance. I can't dance so I'm not one of them, but I do love my God.
I know this may be inappropiate but that would be like saying why are white people so nasty because they go down on their men or women and we all know that all races do that too. Let's not stereotype.
