My dog is a shih-tzu and in order to keep her healthy and without mats, we have to shave her down. So now she shivers because it is so cold out and she has a coat she wears and we have a lot of blankets at home, so I was wondering if you had any other suggestions?

Also, I would like to add that we comb her regularly, but the fact is that her hair grows so long she cannot see!

I have a shi-poo, and he has short hair, but it matts like a shih-tzu. i have to brush him everyday, and also i have never got him shaved. for the cold time, i dont believe in doggie outfits, and also i keep him outside for most of the day. He has been matted a few times before, but i just cut them out. A little advice would be to not shave him, dont shave him during winter months, just get his hair trimmed and cut matts out, or just keep her inside until you get home and then put her "jacket" on and take her for a nice long walk.

Try using a heating pad under her mat or bed, set on low with a pillow over it. Keep the chord well hidden and taped down with duct tape. Personally, I would never shave a dog down. God gave them fur for a reason, obviously to keep them warm.
To avoid matted hair, you should have bought a Chihuahua instead of getting a shih-tzu. I suggest you keep her fur trimmed short but don't shave it down to the skin.

There's no reason you should have to shave a dog continuously in order to keep its coat free of mats. Just brush her more often, at least every other day, preferably once a day. If you keep up with it, it'll only take five minutes of your time, and your dog will be much happier to have her own fur. It is good to have her wear a coat until her fur grows back.

next time dont shave a whole lot of hair or just do the most matted places. you could always brush heer alot or try taking her to a groomer and see what they think. otherwise get her a doggy sweater and wrap her in lots of blankets. hope this helps! =)

You can comb her several times a day or the next time you bathe her, make sure you put hair conditioner on her or you can get a horse product designed to keep the horse mane and tail from tangling. It comes in a spray bottle and it is called "Mane and Tail Detangler".

u could get her more blankets or kep her inside in a warm cage, because my dog was the same way and we kept her inside a cage at night and then we have this thing around the whole cage to keep her warm. U could probaly get at petco.

I have never heard of having to shave them constantly. Get a good brush (ask a groomer, they can recommend the correct one) and brush her AT LEAST every other day.

You can get a type of dog bed that uses the dogs body heat to make the bed & the dog warm.I don't think there expinsive.

There are a variety of doggie sweaters available. You can go from the plain and simple to the luxurious.
