First of all, I have engaged in self-harm for 15 years and every day I am working to get better. Second, why the heck did you post this? I don't know if you really want to get better since the way you describe your self-harm is that you "love" it. If you love something, you won't let it go. You will not change until you decide to, no matter how much outside help you get. You say that nothing ever works for you... well what have you tried besides therapy? There are a million and one coping skills out there and I bet you haven't tried every one of them. Getting better is about being willing to try new things to help you. Such as, instead of picking up that razor (or whatever you use) when you want to cut, make yourself get out of the house. Go for a walk. Take a bath. Scream or beat a pillow. Draw on yourself with a red marker. I understand it's easy to look at a list like this and say "those won't work for me" but how you will you know if you never try? But then again, it doesn't really sound like you want to try. That might be your problem. Sorry I'm not terribly sympathetic, it's just that I know how it is and it sounds like you might be stuck in the self-pity stage, which is very hard to listen to. Otherwise, good luck and hopefully you can find it in you to try to get better.

Life is painful enough. Realize that you do have a purpose, maybe it's that your ideas will influence someone else and that person will influence another person who later influences the world. Wether for bad or good. Also your actions to influence other people. Maybe someone looks up to you and sees that you are self mutilating yourself adn then they deside to follow you down your path. Would you wish that upon anyone else? You also need to try to change for your own good. One day you may cut too deep. Or maybe you just don't care, maybe you don't care about what happens to anyone but yourself. I'm not trying to bash you, I don't know you as a person so I'm talking hypothetically. I'm not sure if you understand yourself, you need to look deep inside yourself and find the truth behind what's going on. Everyone gets depressed, you're not alone. There are suicide hotlines you can call so you can talk to someone when your depression is getting really bad. It's great that you do want to talk to someone about it, but really... maybe if you realize what your actions are doing to other people, since your in therapy your parents know what you do and are probally asking themselves "what did we do wrong?".

If you like the scars and you like the pain and the blood, then what would be a reason to stop? I am not trying to be funny or smart, but I really don't know. You won't quit something until you have a reason to. I just recently stopped smoking and I couldn't quit until the truth scared the **** out of me. Or maybe you don't care what happens to you, in which case you would have to deal with the reasons/issues why you don't care about yourself. The cutting is an effect and your self hatred would be the cause... does that make sence? I hope so. Good luck!

Maybe you could ask your therapist about support groups for teens in your area. Depending where you live, there might be groups specifically for self injury, or there might be ones that are for a broader range of mental health issues. Either way, that might give you the kind of support you're looking for.
You might also want to try http://www.recoveryourlife.com/Forum/default.aspx
It's a website/forum for self injurers to support each other, whether or not they are currently trying to stop. There are usually people on there pretty much 24/7, so there would always be someone talk to when you want to talk. You'll find a lot of people there who are going through a lot of the same things you are, so they'll tend to understand you a lot better than, say, your parents, or probably even a lot of your friends who maybe aren't dealing with the same kinds of issues themselves.
You're also welcome to email me through Answers or at emilyrose1986@yahoo.com if you want. I cut myself too so I'm definitely not going to judge you for it.

Since you are now a young adult I am wondering if you like whips and the smell of leather too? I guess they already asked you if you were ever sexually abused. In the movie the Da Vinci code they claimed that the Opus Dei priests would do things like this.It is like a heightened state of awareness. What is your sensitivity level? Have you ever gone thru hypnosis either? Have you ever read about dissociative identity disorder? Were you a survivor of a set of twins? Have you ever joined a blog site for people like you or group therapy? Do you have RLS? There is a calcium supplement called Calcet it has calcium and D3. Just for the heck of it you might have a deficiency. I take Seroquel and this really helps with the RLS or restless leg syndrome. I'm not closed minded uno. Just reaching somewhat. Good luck anyway.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You say you're currently in therapy....if your therapist isn't working, maybe he/she could suggest someone else. I work in a psychologists office and some of our therapists use a technique called EMDR. It seems to help a lot of people who have been coming in. Is your cutting due to a specific event/events in your life? Have these issues been addressed? Do you talk to family/friends about this? I would guess some people may not be understanding however. I wish I could be of more help, but check out EMDR therapy. Like I said, I only work in a psychology office, I'm not trained. Talk to our therapist. Best of luck to you. I wish you well.

You are your own person and you know what makes you feel good. Sounds like you're realizing that you could feel even better if you worked out some of your problems. I suggest you contact your local hospital and ask about support groups. Depression makes us feel alone but you'd be surprised how many people are going through the same things you are.

I hate to here you are having all these problems, try to stick with threopy. I wish you would get into to church that would probably help but if that is not an option for you than just hang in there and remember when you are at the bottom you can only go up! Good luck to you. Stay strong!

Hi!! =)
Maybe you should try "a group" where you can talk about your problem w/others who feel the same way you do & do the same things you do. You didn't mention trying that, if you haven't already, then give it a try if you really want to help yourself. Cutting is no way to live your life.

wow i really don't know what to say well it seems like a impulse you have to do this. i think maybe if you find something else that gives you a rush that feeling you get when you hurt. try a sport or activity that you might get hurt in or that is a bit dangerous but be safe you just need a rush
