I have attempted to use coarse salt in the past with poor results. Are soap flakes available anymore? Any other ideas?

I'm not really going to animate falling snow. I meant I was just going to film it live-action. I guess I'd also like ground snow ideas, too.

Hmmm that's quite difficult if you are meaning falling snow because if the fact that you cant really suspend all the snow flakes and move them with each stop motion. What equipment are you using? Maybe you could add falling snow later on with an effects program like Adobe After Effects which specializes in that kind of thing. Or else, somehow attach some minature styrofoam balls randomly to a sheet of clear glass and drop it down a little for each frame. For snow on the ground, that's easy. Buy some LUX soap flakes and crumble them up a little more than they already are. Or if you would like a more pure look, use icing sugar (I think in America it's called frosting sugar???). Hope that helps a little.

How about a shredded white trash bag. Try running it over the fine side of a kitchen grater. Maybe white paper towel done the same way. Wet toilet paper, chop it into fine bits, let it dry.
Get bar soap and flak it with the grater.

I have the perfect solution. Rub a large piece of styrophome and you get those very lightweight little chunks that really do look like snow. I love Legos!!!

Don't know ..maybe shred white soap? Try all those things people suggest, maybe one of them actually looks realer then you might think. Best of Luck!
