It could be a cankar sore. Is it white? If so there are lots of things at the drug store you can use that will help heal it and numb it. If it continues to hurt for more than a couple days, I would see a doctor or dentist. There is a picture on this site of a canker sore:

Could be a piece of an old tooth you have had extracted, could be a wisdom tooth, could be an abscess, go see your dentist

It may be an abcess and you should see a dentist.
