Lately my friend hasn't been eating right. She's 5'11 and about 130 pounds. She lost a lot of weight and other people are starting to notice. Sometimes I try to get her to eat but she always says she's not hungary. You can see her bones through her skin and it's starting to scare me. I don't know how to help her before she gets any worse...

how old is she? if you're in high school no. she prolly just hit a growth spurt and her weight hasn't caught up with her height. maybe she's not hungry. good luck. and don't spread any rumors about her. just talk to her about it. voice your concerns and let her know you ask because you care.

well, first off you should know that peoples weight fluctuates all the time. i dont know because you did not mention it... is there something that is bothering her? if there is her weight loss could be a result of that, if there is, you seem like a good friend because you are concerned about her, you should try and see if you can get her to talk about it and try to get additional help if needed. If there is nothing bothering her or she is not too busy for example with school and work so she dont have time to eat well, I would say she has and eating disorder if she has lost ALOT of weight.

It sounds like an eating disorder. She is definatly underweight, but she could be built small. It's great that she has a friend like you to be concerned for her. You should tell her parents your concerns and get her some help. Also you need to tell her your concerns for her and let her know that you are there for her and you care for her and want to help her through it. Of course you can't help her through it unless she wants help. But she will need professional help along with the support of family and friends. Let her know of the concequences of anoriexia or any eating disorder. It's not healthy and will eventually lead to death. It puts a lot of strain on the heart and can give her a heart attack. Also, because her body is in starvation mode, she's not eating enough calories a day (I think the body needs at least 1,500 calories) it will cause her to gain weight faster once she begins eating again. Eventually it will even out and she'll gain weight normally if she continues to eat normally, but for her size and height she needs to gain weight. Also anorexia deprives the body of vitamins and minerals, it'll can make her hair dry out, and cause even more damage to the body. Let her know your concern and let her know that you're going to be there for her. I'm pretty sure her parents realize there's a problem, but you could also talk to them about your concern for your friend.

This is tricky! I think you should research it and find out what the symptoms are, I know they become very secretive. Check out www.eda.co.uk, it is the eating disorder assosciation. My friend has been raising awareness for this through her art work. I hope this helps good luck xx
