The overwhelmingly most popular answer here is the SAS which to some extent is correct. However, these days SF selection is carried out jointly between the SAS and the SBS. Successful SBS candidates then go on to Swimmer Canoeist (SC3) training, probably similar to the SEALS selection. And that's after passing the same course as the SAS! Failure rate is over 90%.
To cap it off, the vast majority of SBS candidates are drawn from the Royal Marines, who have a 30 week long Basic Training too!

Having said that, the SBS are a much smaller unit than the SAS, and are not regarded as highly by other SF units across the world

Well it would help if you clarify some. If you are talking about the US, it would have to be Delta Force or SEAL Team 6. I'm not sure what SEAL Team 6 does since they have actually managed to keep it secret.

But if you mean for something you actually go to right after boot camp, I would say Navy SEALs have the toughest training. Army Special Forces have a tough selection, you have to actually get selected. So even if you don't quit and try your hardest you might not make it.

The Americans would probably say theirs has the toughest because as far as the average citizen is concerned no one else exists, for the rest of he planet either the British special forces, the Israelis or perhaps the French Foreign Legion.

For anti-terrorist work, it can never be disputed there will be no better in the world than the British SAS.

Many foreign special forces are trained by the SAS in the UK, and many SAS stationed abroad undertaking training duties for foreign governments, including the USA.

Nothing has raised their profile more than the obvious one - Iranian Embassy seige in London. As far as PR went, that was the bom-diggy.

SAS without a doubt. They train the hardest and in the toughest conditions weather it be in the jungle or the hills in wales. They have to carry huge weight and its not unusual for them to carry 130 pounds.

They are the WORLD LEADERS in special forces

Americans will say the seals or w/e else they have and although they may be good they aint good enough.

Put yourself in this situation - You have been taken hostage and held for randsom. now who would you rather have to rescue you the SAS or seals etc!

SAS every time

The S.A.S. and the S.B.S, they have candidates that actually die on selection on a regular basis, plus the Navy Seals and other American special forces come and train at their bases in Hereford and Poole, Dorset.

The Frogman in me needs to assert SEAL. despite if, the better question is who're the greater suitable recruits and to that I nonetheless decide to assert SEALs. reality is all people who makes it right into a spec op unit might die in education if pushed not undemanding sufficient. Seeing the video clips does no justice to being there. each and all of the guy in those instruments are undesirable asses.

The SAS or the Royal Marines. It's a tough choice between the two, but I'd probably pick the SAS.
