We live on a quiet road and have a garden, so basically there's no problem with having our cats outside. They're both lovely, affectionate cats but whereas Izzie hangs out with us all the time, Maud eats and leaves - she basically only comes inside to eat and to sleep (on our pillows...) We don't think that she has another place to go as she's very skittish around new people, and is usually within calling distance. She loves to have a cuddle, and she's a lovely cat - we'd just like to see more of her without restricting her independence - any suggestions?

Let her be, she seem to enjoy the way her life is. My cat simba does the same thing, he come home to eat then the goes across a street to the neighor and sleep most of the day until I call him or when he feel like coming home. He's happy

cats are free spirits. chances are one cat stays away because the other cat is the dominant one. or vise versa. cats don't want to be around each other most of the time. my gramma had two cats one was teddy and she was as skiddish as they come, fluffy was older by a few years and was considered the queen of the house. she was the dominant female, because of this she used to cuddle all the time and go out only sometimes. teddy used to just hid under the bed in my gramma's room. now that fluffy is gone (rip) teddy has kinda broken out of her shell. she used to be terrified of me...and everyone else for that matter. but now she goes outside and cuddles all the time with my gramma. she even picked up fluffy's old habits of meowing/yelling at people to open the back door for her to go outside. it's really funny. but that could be why one stays inside and the other is outside.

Make indoors a more interesting place for a cat... kitty condo, kitty toys, warm cozy spot by the window...

I had to turn my 2 indoor-outdoor cats into almost indoor only cats recently becuase we moved to a place where there are racoons. So, I made it worth their while to stay indoors. A ot more work for me since I need to play with them more, but a lot safer for them... which is its own reward. Now, they go outside only with halter and leash or in their outdoor enclosure.

Make her a Doggy Door, so she can come and go as she pleases and you don't have to get up to open the door everytime.
I had a Dog like that and it drove me crazy up and down all the time letting him in and out.

give her a kitty door that way she can come and go as she wants. But also that way if or ex: its storming outside or snowing you can shut the door and keep her inside.
