I AM TALKING ABOUT ALL-TIME RANKINGS NOT CURRENT. TO RANK A FIGHTER IN A PARTICULAR WEIGHT CLASS THEY SHOULD HAVE WON A TITLE IN THAT WEIGHT CLASS.

I have noticed this too Smitty. Some examples are Ezzard Charles and Gene Tunney as light heavyweight where neither won a title in that division. Yes they were outstanding fighters in that weight class but they never were the champion.

cause you don't necessarily have to hold a title to have a good ranking . bernard hopkins doesn't have a title in the light-heavyweight division yet hes considered the number 1 light-heavyweight in the world. james toney never officially won a title in the heavyweight division yet he was ranked in the top 10 of heavyweights. it just depends on who you fight and how good the person was. titles now and days are meaningless. c'mon there are three wba cruiserweight champs right now. the wba unified champion, the "regular" wba champion, and the interim wba champion. thats just the wba, theres also the wbc, ibf, and wbo belts too. its ridiculous, its all about getting sanctioning fees.

Sometimes fighters are ducked because they are dangerous. Therfore never given a title shot. Example the great Charley Burley. Ezzard Charles couldn't get a shot at the light heavy title that's why he moved up.

People don't know how to percieve fighters in their right divisions. You have many who want that dream matchup, so they put a fighter in a division in which they don't belong, like Arguello at 140.

it is gimmick by promoters and otherr money people to try to line up big money matches! back in 1980's, the public was clamoring for a marvin hagler and suger ray leonard match, evn though hagler was middleweight and leonard was welter weight champ, and sure enough, the fight happened, bringing in millions of dollars for promoters and fighters. the sport is corrupt, and people like don king and bob arum will wo anything to keep public interested and their pockets full of MONEY!!
