A life as a military wife. It'll be much like being corporate wife, just more moving around. Everything will be slanted towards supporting his career. There'll be a fair amount of social functions, entertaining, and mentoring/leadership roles for you as he moves up the ranks. There will be frequent moves, at the convenience of the service. You will have a network of friends - other military wives, but they will come and go as people transfer around. Still, you will probably form long-term support relationships with other officers' wives. You'll need those friendships, because it may often be that your husband is overseas on unaccompanied duty. You need to be someone who is independent and can act/live on their own, yet be dedicated to supporting and loving your man. Some people like it, some people can't abide it. You need to make up your mind if that's a life you'd like.

I'm wife of the Marine, who went twice to Iraq. All the branches of the military, as well as most of the bases/posts have their support networks. You can look for it on their official websites. You can participate, and discover that there are many wonderful things about military life. I know that prospects of the military future are scary at the times, and the sacrifice of the women is the greatest, but so are many great returns. I've left my country and family to be with the one that I knew was right for me. Love conquers all.

As a wife of a military husband, it is hard but honestly I would never change a day of our marriage. My husband fought for all of our freedom and is now back from Iraq, I am so proud of him, I can't say it was easy with him so far away but I made it through it only because I knew he was doing what he needed to do to protect our freedom. He makes me proud to say I support our troops and everything the military has done for our family. Even though my husband has served his time once I can say he will serve more only because his unit is going to mobilize again next year. But it made us stronger as a couple even though we were apart. It is a great life with alot of things to see and different places to live, I love it.

A folded flag unless he knows how to shoot and to make himself a difficult target. We seem to expect a lot of city-bred American soldiers with little or no weapons savvy, facing a bunch of radical nut-cases who have been murdering people all their lives. That's tough on 2nd Lieutenants and Lance Corporals.
West Point should do a lot for him, training-wise, but he'll be smart to go way beyond that. Spend some time on the skeet and combat pistol ranges. Live targets won't stand still for him at exactly 100 yards.
