Back taxes and back child support will both prevent you from getting a passport. The reason for this is that it's too easy to leave the country in order to avoid paying.

Oh come on. If you are denied they will send you a letter explaining why and return your documents. If it's a first time application you had to apply in person. They do keep your birth certificate but only photocopy your driver's license.

Go to where you applied passport agency, courthouse or post office and tell them you havn't heard back if it has been long enough. The State Department has a form for this as they don't want a lost passport out there.

Bear in mind that since starting in January everybody had to have a passport for even going to Canada they are backed up I'm sure.

You can call but you get charged on a credit card for phone help. The State Dept. site also has a place where you can check on it's status.

As far as back taxes........ the government doesn't have their stuff together enough for denying you for only $3000.

Did you mail in your application? According to the new regulations, you have to appear at an authorized passport issuing site in person if you have never held a passport previously. You can only use the mail to renew your passport if you have held a valid passport in the past 15 years, and were over age 18 at the time it was originally issued. Did you get a letter denying your application, or could it have been lost in the mail?

I don't have a clue, especially if you are a U.S. citizen. Things have changed under this administration which apparently does not have to answer to anybody. As far as I know, back taxes do not exclude one from being issued a passport.

I would imagine that you have answered your own question, they denied you because you owe back taxes and they dont want you out of the country until you pay up

uhh...duh...it's your BACK TAXES!!! haven't you heard that saying, "there are only two things certain in life, death and taxes" ???? they will make you pay, in more than one way, and you are paying right now.
