This was tested on the show "Mythbusters" They had 5 sets of plants. One with no talking/music. One with a soundtrack of nice things being said, one with meanness and abuse, one with classical music (i think), and one with death metal.
The death metal group did best, followed by classical(if they did that, i can't remember), and the nice/mean groups finished about the same. The plants with silence did worst.

supposedly they like air music like horns and classical or something isn there enough music playing when the birds chirp on by
