Americans are a very impatient lot. There are some places where it is clearly marked no right on red. These usually are intersections that are extremely busy, so it would make it unsafe to turn into that lane of traffic. I usually wait till the light turns green, and have people behind me honking...

Laws that allow right turn on red still require you to come to a complete stop at the light and proceed only if you can do it safely. There is no traffic hazard if drivers obey the law and pay attention to other traffic.
If you're going to obsess about traffic safety, then worry about drunk drivers and people using cell phones while driving. (Accident rates are about the same for the two groups)

Why speak of other countries, when Your country's many states don't allow to turn on red? For example: NY. It is not safe, because there is always a chance that someone will miss that flying car from the left, especially in the large cities!!!

It is very safe providing people know how to drive. We drive more in this country than any other in the world and we really don't give a rats a$$ what other countries do.

The law changed during the energy crisis in an effort to save fuel. It's as safe as the person behind the wheel makes it.

It was enacted to save gas, instead of sitting there at a red light and wasting gas, I think it is a good law.

It does make sense...if NO ONE is coming then you may turn right...I'm personally not concerned with other countries and their rules, unless you plan to relocate. If you think it's unsafe, don't do it.

DUH, it's only not safe when you turn BEFORE it's safe to do so.
GEEZ, does someone have to hold your hand and say "ok, young fellow, it's OK to turn now"
