You will find no sources that can back this up. First, there are no government documents or employees who can say that the government is wanting to do this. There are a lot of conspiracy theories about this but they do not have any proof to back them up. Find some proof and then start to worry about it.

If they were wanting to do this then the expenditure of money would be enormous. Imagine what it would take to do this just for New York City. How many street corners are there? How many people would be required to install and maintain these cameras? Who would be watching all of those cameras? Now, up this to a country wide scale and you quickly see the idea is impossible.

Also, the camera technology is not there. There are no cameras that can strip a person of clothes. Some types of cameras specialize in certain wavelengths of light and can see thru clothes, but the picture they return is not something that would show a person as naked as when they are in a shower. There are some pretty cool cameras out there but nothing like what you describe.

Finally, who is going to supply these cameras? That is a big question. I want to buy stock in that company now. The government does not have the facilities to make that many cameras, much less make them economically, much less make them economically and work right. These billions of cameras will have to come from a company. That company would be the richest company in the world if this were to happen.

There are cameras in use in Baltimore, NYC, parts of Boston, numerous metropolitan regions. That IS a fact. These cameras can't strip layers of clothing, but are used by municipal Police forces to track crime in specific neighborhoods. There is a possibility that infrared lenses might be in use in some areas to enhance the productivity of the traditional cameras. These are funded from Federal grants, tax monies, private donation, etc, etc

I don't know if they can or not!

Personally, I'm all for security cameras in public places...
In the early 90's some chic in Va Beach claimed that I did some things that I did not do.

The cops showed up and started asking questions... I told them that I was bar hopping on the strip that night. I pulled off my shirt, told them I was wearing a "wife beater" tee that night, and asked if they could verify it through the police cameras that are all over the place. I've got a bunch of tats... It wasn't hard for them to track it down!

It is true that they want to install cameras in the lights, but not to see the people walking. They want to do it to see the cars and the people in them and no they wont be able to see you naked or anything like that. But they will be able to see any crimes commited, i.e hit and run, speeding, drug dealing. Things like that. If it happens that on the camera they can see the sidewalk then of course they see the people who pass by but that's not what there meant for. Don't worry to their eyes you will remain clothed!

We're talking America here, aren't we.......Yeah, I can see it now.

All you need is some poor schmuck sitting at his computer console and I walk through the scanner. A short, fat, 50 something, bald guy....and he gets a flash of me naked.

Woah!!...... it ain't a pretty sight, my friend. They don't pay that much money, anywhere.

These types of scanners do exist. I think we will see them in airports and government buildings first though.
