hello, I have a 3.5 year old who is extremely slow eater. Takes a lot of time eating his food when eating on his own. Its not that he is not hungry, he wants to eat all by himself, but very slow. He has recently started going to the preschool+daycare. He seems to enjoys his time there apart from meals. I am really worried for him as he can not finish meals in time an therefore goes hungry most of the times. Can anyone please suggest a way out from this? What can I do? How should I make him understand that he needs to eat faster???

you can not get him to eat faster. You could instill bad eating brehaviors. Just be more patient. You should try to feed him earlier then normal. Give him food for on the go, if you really gotta be somewhere quick. But other than that you gotta be more patient. And the day care for that fact. Most day cares will give slow pokes more time. I know where you are coming from though, my daughter used to take like 2 hours to finish a meal. Thank god she grew out of it. But funny thing is, I picked up the habbit of taking longer and she complains.

Theres nothing you really can do. At least he is eating. My son is also the same age but doesnt want to eat much of anything. The only thing I could really suggest is keep snacks handy, like carrot sticks, apple slices, celery, etc etc. That way he can snack on things inbetween meals.

I know this sounds Callous but don't do anything he will learn on his own at preschool or at home if he's hungry and learns that dinner disappears he will know by himself children have to learn but don't use snacks because he didn't eat his dinner let him learn but be vigilant of course.Have a word with them at preschool or doctors for professional advice to put your mind at ease

Mention your concerns to them...I'm sure it's not a unique case though...ask them about his eating, see if they say he eats slow or they feed him b/c he eats slow or what...maybe see if they could feed him for a little bit...but that's great that he wants to do it himself even if he is slower right now, soon you'll be telling him not to demolish his food so fast...

Weight education helps a individual build muscle mass and develop bodyweight. Proteins are required for development muscle mass, so having severe protein ingredients like eggs, milk, peanut butter, protein shakes will help.
