The question was to fellow believers. I didn't ask why evolutionist don't believe!

Okay the point of the question is geared at those who believe that evolution and the bible can co-exist. Why do you need science to accept the Bible?

It is a simple matter of credibility and avoiding valid ridicule. As a Catholic I do not have a problem with someone asking a question from a scientific view point. The Church scrutinizes far more than the scientists in many cases. At Lourdes, France medical doctors have come up with over 200 unexplainable cures. The Church, at the same time, has only declared approximately 120 "miracles".

St. Thomas Aquinas came up with 5 proofs of God's existence that are based upon every day scientific priniciples and laws.

The simple answer is, we don't. Science today, is not a very reliable source in many areas. Scientists speculate in areas that they lace sufficient information. Then, twenty years down the road, the official position changes.

Before Pasteur, science believed in spontaneous generation as far as flies were concerned. Just leave garbage out, and flies with materialize from the garbage. Pasteur proved this idea wrong, and science was set on its ear.

It is easy to speculate, to make assumptions. But that is not science. Science is supposed to be the search for truth. But truth doesn't change. If science changes it's position, what happened to the truth?

We can learn a great deal from science. I am all for it. My problem is when speculation is called science. There are scientists who are too proud to admit that there are things that are beyond the scope of science. So they speculate. And they heap scorn on anyone who would dare to not accept their theory. The best example that comes to mind is evolution. Look at how the evolutionary theory has "evolved" over the years. How the age of the earth, and everything in it has changed. So what is the true age of the earth? What will it be in another twenty years?

If scientists would stick to the things of science, and stay out of metaphysical areas, there would be little conflict between science and conventional Christianity.

Actually, you didn't aim this just at Xians. You asked why do Xians have to deal with reality when they're more comfortable with the Fairy Tales of the bible. That could better be answered by someone who isn't living in a state of delusion. Someone, you know, more in tune with reality (Although I see now how reality frightens you).

It's funny that you would speak ill of science while typing on the keyboard of your computer...which is powered by electricity..and connected to the internet. Damn science! Why should you have to accomodate such obviously untrue things as electricity and gravity! It's not fair, is it? Back to the bible with you. You'll find security there.

Extraordinary claims (worldwide floods without a trace, talking animals, mass migrations without a trace, etc..) require extraordinary evidence. The Bible has not a scrap of evidence hinting that its tall tales might be true--the mental gymnastics of the Discovery Institute and Answers in Genisis notwithstanding. Therefore there is no reason to believe it.

I'm sure we don't have to accommodate all of science ideas. Some of them are good and fall within the scope of the Bible and really helps to explain the Bible.

We must remember, the Bible is true.

Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God. 3 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? 4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written:
“That You may be justified in Your words,
And may overcome when You are judged.”
The New King James Version. 1996, c1982 . Thomas Nelson: Nashville

For example, the "Big Bang" theory is a bunch of garbage! God made all creation.

The more science advances the more it proves the Bible true and that strengthens our faith and the faith of nonbelievers.
It is much easier to believe the Bible today than it was even a hundred years ago with the advances in science, especially archeology.

Science was a side-effect of Christianity. And Christianity is all about truth. Since the Bible was written by people with no understanding of how things work, it isn't couched in those terms. So in order to make it clear that it is indeed a book of Truth, we have to 'translate' it into terms our nonchristian bretheren can understand and accept.

Let me answer in two ways.

First, in order to bring others to belief, you have to be able to communicate with them. Understanding science and accomodating science is not the same thing as buying into it.

Secondly, Science will tell us the HOWs about the universe. How it was made, how it works, etc.

Religion/Spirituality will tell us the WHYs about the universe. WHY it was created. Why it works that way.

How ridiculous would your religion make you feel if you still believed the sun revolved around the earth? Denying scientific facts only makes your religion look like a cult. You may have lost it but at least give your children a chance

Adam was the first zoologist.

He got to name the animals of creation.

We have been working on the mechanics of how creation works ever since.

Genesis 2:19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
