Hmmm....this is a really tough one to answer.

Pros: Ousted Saddam (mad man) from power. Gave Iraqis the ability to have open elections. Trained thousands to help defend their own country. Stopped the flow of money from food for oil from going to the wrong places ( weapons, palaces, Hussein riches, France...). Many families now know what happened to their loved ones ( Mass graves from Saddam slaughters). The war on terror is not being physically fought on our own soil. We have not had any major terrorist attacks since 9/11

Cons: The loss of thousands of American soldiers. The split views of American people. The hatred felt by many Americans of our own government. The fact that we gave the Jihadists what they wanted (their supposed holy war).

It looks like al Maliki feels he can take a harder line now against the Mahdists, and that means he can also be more effective against the other groups, especially some of the Sunni groups that would have been totally alienated if he'd pushed too hard last year. And some of the Iraqi troops are getting trained up and beginning to do effective work. Nobody seems to want to admit it, but what's happening seems to be what we were told was the plan.

Sounds like a lot of answers fro people who have never been there. A dictator has been ousted and can no longer torture innocent civilians for petty reasons, such as torturing soccer players because they lost a game. Schools are being built so that even GIRLS can go to school. Terrorists are not able to roam as they wish and build up forces and have time to plan attacks on the U.S. As far as I'm concerned.....the war is doing what it is supposed to be doing.
