My baby is 5 months old and she had viral phemonia about a month ago and it seemed to never completely go away. Now she is even worse than before. The doctor is on the borderline of admitting her because of her breathing. Her white blood count is high. I guess that means she has bacteria in her somewere. The doctor is giving her an antibiotic and says it may give her a yeast infection. Is this right? Can someone give me a second opinion?

Look don't panic, just relax and watch her very closley! If her breathing is different, call her doctor! If they admit her you will be there with her! So don't worry it will be okay!

My opinion is listen to your doctor. Why would you want second opinions on medical issues from somewhere like Yahoo Answers???????

If for some reason you don't trust your doctor, then find another doctor in your area to see.

(BTW, antibiotics do often cause yeast infections. Also they are less effective because of overuse through the years and some bugs are resistant. Often doctors obtain cultures so they can target exactly which antibiotic will be effective on the particular bug strain involved.)

Hope your baby is well soon!

Yeast infections and diahrria are common side effects from antibiotics.

The antibiotic will kill the infection, and will also kill other "good" bacteria such as the one in the lining of the stomach (causing diarrea) or the normal vaginal bacteria (therefore increasing the normal yeast percentage).

So your doctor is right, I'm assuming that you are a first time mom.

Good luck
