Maybe not most people but yea a lot do, I pity the people who are actually having a hard time not the ones who need to exaggerate their lives to get more pity.
*Sigh* when will the government give us a warrant to send these people to the moon?

I work with mentally ill people. Many people think that those claiming mental illness are using their claim to avoid punishment, and some do; however, it is important to realize that there are tests administered by professionals to help determine mental illness. Just because someone is deemed mentally ill, does not mean there should not be repercussions to the actions. Prisons are gearing toward treatment of mentally ill persons and often those who are unable to live in a prison setting are sent out to special treatment facilities for stabilization, and then returned to prison. These facilities are sometimes within a prison and other times are locked units within a state hospital. Also, many prisons have special units for more intensive treatment and monitoring of mentally ill inmates. California also has laws that allow persons that are considered sexually violent predators to be civilly committed after their prison sentence for treatment regardless of the sexual predator's desire to receive treatment.

Yes of course it is hard to have sympathy for someone who is faking it to get away from jail time for some serious murder cases or child molestation, etc. But thats what docs are there for to see if they are mentaly stable enough to stand the case and receive a proper punishment.

I don't know what you consider "bad things" but your question / statement is like saying a diabetic fakes needing insulin so they can "shoot up" and eat awsome sugar free candy! Yes some people abuse the system, that has more to do with the quality of the person NOT their diagnosis.

If you ever really had a mental disorder that is severe, it is like going through Hell, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I seriously doubt that everyone that says they have a mental disorder is "faking it".

My ex-sister in law used to act like a b*tch on wheels, throwing tantrums, raging, going mental... then she'd get over herself and be all "I'm sorry I can't help it" YET she refused to see any doctor, refused to get any therapy, and refused to take any medication. She wouldn't get anger management, even when the court ordered her to (she somehow managed to get someone to go in her place). So she was smart enough to get out of her responsibilities and was "healthy" when anyone told her to get help.
Now, she and my brother are divorced and I see my brother is doing THE SAME THING! It's like he learned her tricks! He's always "sick" and whenever he doesn't want to be a father or a man, he "has to go lie down". Once he even claimed he "threw up all night" which was a total lie (I was sleeping on the sofa and couldn't sleep- he never woke up!) and yet, he gets all "hurt" when we went to lunch without him.
He's too "sick" to take responsibility for himself, yet seems to think he's not sick enough to make a doctor's appointment! And if you try to talk to him about it he'll say (I swear!) "Ohhhh stop, I can't breathe!" and he'll literally run to the bathroom.

I am not sure what bad things you refer to, but there are some very serious mental disorders out there that debilitating and/or bad enough that the person with them may very well have trouble fitting into society.

i totally agree. a mental illness is the easiest thing to fake and frankly i think many do. they us it to cover up their wrongs by saying they have a mental illness so people will fill sorry for them rather than angry

I would say that a small minority of the mentally ill are faking it, not "most people."
