go to www.ceasermilian.com. He is also known as the dog whisperer. He helped my 3 dogs to get over barking at squirrels so i think that the website will help. Good Job at adopting a dog instead of making a breeder's puppy mill more wealthy!!! :)
5 stars for you!!! * * * * *!!!

It cold be how the dog was raised before you got it; it could also be the introduction the animals had to each other. Start by having the dog sit by you, and having one cat, come towards you on the other side. Be sure to calm the dog, while the cat approaches. It will take some time, nothing between cats and dogs works over night! Once these to can be within inches of each other, start over with the other cat, but keep the first within a foot or two so the dog remembers what happened the first time. And be sure to reward for good behavior ever time.

Keep an eye on them and just give it some time. The dog is trying to protect you and its territory, and is also curious. Eventually, it will realize the cats are not a threat and will be bored of the novelty of the cat. Unless the dog is insanely bloodthirsty, it will eventually stop chasing your cats. I've had numerous dogs and cats, and they eventually got along.

Its too late. You need to train your cats not to move and hiss when the dog barks. That is WHY the dog barks in the first place - cats are the absolute best playtoys for dogs with the way they react.

Your dog is behaving as though she sees the cats as prey. DO NOT leave the dog unsupervised around the cats, or you may have a tragedy on your hands. What breed or mix of breeds is this dog? If she is a high prey drive breed or mix (such as a terrier or hound) it may never be safe to keep these pets together, and you may want to talk to the shelter about returning this dog and adopting one that is safer with your cats. If the dog isn't a high prey drive breed or mix, the shelter may be able to recommend a behaviorist to evaluate your dog to see if he or she honestly thinks your dog can be trained to be safe around your cats, and to work with you & your dog to rehabilitate her.

Have you taken the dog to obedience class yet? If not, ask around for recommendations for a good class (your vet may know of one) and sign up ASAP. Once the dog learns obedience commands, it will be easier for you to set up a carefully supervised introduction.

Purchase the book by Cesar Milan. He's the Dog Whisperer that has been seen on Oprah and also has a show on The National Geographic Show. Looks like you need to put that dog in check and quick.

Here is his website:

..You're pretty much out of luck with this one. Dogs, by nature, dislike cats. There are exceptions though but that just depends greatly on the personality of the dog. Generaly though, they just dont get along.

You've never heard of the saying "Fighting like cats and dogs"? What would have ever made you want a dog while owning a cat? Why would you have thought it would have worked out?

Find someone with a nice cat and introduce them in a pleasant envirnoment. With the dog restrained of course. If you cant do that, then try training her not to bark and give her TONS of praise if she obeys. Its all basic obeidience training used correctly.

My dogs killed one of our cats, even though they had grown up together. Make sure that you keep them supervised, don't leave them alone thinking that they will work it out. Good luck.
