My very first staffy was from a stray dog`s centre it was approx 6 years old , We had 2 young children age 2 & 4 at the time and that dog was so loyal and protective to the childen ,
We had the same " i wouldnt have a stray near my kid`s" story but it was the best thing i ever did !
We now breed staffy`s and have done so for 20 year`s !
These kennel`s do load`s of different test`s before even considering to let anyone have it , the fact it is there for you to choose mean`s it is safe and has past these strict test`s .
Go for it you wont regret it !

Is this a reputable dogs home? Has the dog been vetted by someone with wide experieince of SBT? Getting a dog from rescue is a lovely idea, but only if you are very sure of the dog's past and the reason it ended up in rescue. Far better to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder. Personally, I think getting any breed from rescue when you have young children is a risk.

Staffies are wonderful dogs if they have been trained correctly. They are people oriented dogs and tend to do everything full throttle. They play love and sleep hard. they also tend to move from one to the other with lightening speed too. I have one at home that is a therapy animal. He does regular visits to a local daycare center as well as seniors homes. Everyone who has ever met him loves him.
You *MUST* be willing to dedicate the time to train and keep up the training on the dog though. With a staffie you can not afford to have an ill manored animal.
Remember in most cases its not a bad dog but a bad or uninformed owner that causes most of the breed specific problems.
One thing I will warn you about. Your dog will likley be the most loving caring gentle animal you ever want to see. But the ignorant people out there will be the ones attacking your dog. I have had people walk up to me and tell me i should "put my dog to sleep" cause he is a bad breed. Without even taking the time to know my animal. And that is what you will find yourself dealing with. Airplanes that wont take them, Hotels/motels that dont allow them on travelling. areas you can not vacation in with the dog etc etc.

I wouldn't chance it......I think all dogs are best born into a family and raised as a family member......it could be ok but I wouldnt risk it when you have children am not sure actually thats a hard one I wouldn't like to give up on a dog especially if it is friendly and has a chance of missing out on a good loving home......maybe they will let u visit it and visit it with the children for a few times and you could see how they get on.......Staffys are excellent pets and recommended by the kennel club in uk for best with children......I have one.....

Depends. Find out why she is up for rehoming?Did her old owners die or move somewhere they couldn't take her to or has she done something bad like bitten someone?
If the rescue centre is reputable they should do tests on dogs they get to see if they have aggression issues to people or kids or other dogs and to see whether they bite when guarding their food and so on.
Ask if they do these tests. If they do and she passed them all (ask to see written proof such as reports-don't just take their word for it.) then you should be fine. If they don't or she failed any of them-except possibly the being agressive with dogs 1 which is not unusual for a staffie-then leave her.

As long as she (the dog) has not got a bad history and came from good background, then you should have no problems,as staffy's are not bad, just the wrong owners. It's up to you at the end of the day,but please make sure you know enough about the dog first, also a good idea to introduce the dog to the children and judge for yourself before you choose.Good luck and fun if you do get her.

I think staffordshire bull terriers make GREAT pets!! I think they are soo cute. Plus they are a relatively smaller dog. If you love this dog, and the dog loves your children, i think it should be fine. Just don't leave the dog unsupervised with the children, and i recommend this to anyone who has both kids and dogs. Do a little more research on the breed, and on caring for dogs in general. If you still think this is the dog for you, i think you should adopt her!!!

staff's are great dogs but bitches can be dodgy.i have experience of the breed and would say you could be 95% sure that she would be ok,but that 5% of doubt makes it a no no because you have children, also you will never knoww the full history of the dog.

I had two Staffies and they are great with children. Its only other terriers that they tend to go for. I would never leave any type of dog alone with small chldren though

They have a good reputation with kids, BUT, with the recent mauling/killing of the youg girl in Merseyside, UK, it has definitely made me think twice about getting a SBT. It definitely wouldnt be suitable to get one from a rescue as you do not know its history. If you really want this breed of dog, get a puppy and bring it up with your children.
