The only way that you can deduct any rent you pay is if you run a business out of your apartment. If you have a business and use a bedroom for the office, you take the square footage of that room and figure out the percentage of the rent is used for office space. Say you pay $1000 a month for 1000 sq ft apartment, the bedroom is 300 sq ft, then you can claim $300 a month rent for office space
