As a commercial airline pilot, we see this quite a bit in the normal course of our workday.

Are you claustrophobic? or does the lack of control of what is happening cause you fear? or other?

Claustrophobia is a condition that may cause panic, but 9 times out of 10, the lack of control is a primary cause of "fear of flying".

I say this often, but it is true, " As a pilot, I am riding the airplane with you. I do not want to die anymore than you do. I am going to do everything in my power to save my life. As a pilot, we are very aware that we are responsible for the 200+ lives we have behind us on the airplane."

In order for a pilot to work for the airlines, they have been exposed to numerous "simulated" emergencies and prepare for each flight to ensure the safety of ALL passengers.

Commercial pilots are retrained and have there competency evaluated every six to twelve months to ensure the highest level of safety.

Hope this helps.

Well, the safest way to travel is Flying. There are more cars on the road than planes in the air. Even though there may be 400+ people on one flight, think of it in this way:...

There are over 800 thousand cars on the road right now surrounded by other cars. How many planes are in the air? Less than 20 thousand. Just think theres one person per plane in the air. and one person in each car. There are 40,000 deaths a year just from car accidents and there are less than 1,500 deaths a year from flying. Difference? MUCH!

Maybe you need to go see your family doctor to give you something to calm you on the plane. Just a sedative. You'd take it before you board your flight, that way hopefully your sleeping before the flight even takes off.

Hi,
I'm scared also. My Dr. gave me some sedatives that calm my nerves and allow me to fly even though I don't like it
