Lacrimabant mulieres et liberos parvos tenebant; lacrimabant liberi qui parentes suos quaerebant; clamabant parentes qui liberos suis petebant. Via erat plena eorum qui ad spectaculum venerant. Alii ex adstantibus aquam portabant; alii in insulam intrabant et euxilium incolis miseris ferebant. Multi tamen nihi faciebant.

The women were crying and holding small children; the children who were lookign for their parents were crying; the parents who were searching for their children were shouting. The road was full of those who had come to the spectacle. Some were carrying water out of the (?), others were entering the island and bringing help to the sad inhabitants. Many however did nothing.
