Hi, My friends roommate may have Meningitis. Doctors and hosptial are not sure. Should I minimize contact with my friend who has the sick roommate? I don't think that she is going to get sick, but I want to make sure, because I am in College and really don't need a bad infection.

If you had contact with the person in question and if that person is in fact infected, you should go to the hospital and explain the situation to a doctor; they might want to put on prophylactic therapy.
If the person is infected with a "dangerous" or very contagious kind of meningitis, the hospital itself will contact your roommate to check if he has been affected. If not, he will just be in that prophylactic therapy and u should be fine. If he has been affected too, you will be contacted, as he would be, and you'll start on that therapy.
Maybe avoid close contacts with your friend, until there are certainties about the case.

Whatever it is it would be too late to avoid your friend now. If it is meningitis you would have to go in and get checked anyway and you might have already contacted whatever it is she has. College dorms are just notorious for passing bugs around-there are many people using the same shower, sick/toilet facilities, water fountains..etc. and you are in close proximity to a lot of people. It is common to see that on the whole, a lot of people get sick about a month after everyone comes back from break. This is usually from somone getting sick during break and coming back and giving it to everyone else. There is not much you can do right now besides washing your hands frequently, keeping a diet with vitamins and excersising. This is a big downside with dorm living. If it is not for you, then see if you can get an appartment off campus or something next semester.

Tell your friend that you are afraid to be exposed to Meningitis, because you are in College and really don't need a bad infection. I'm sure your friend will understand. Meningitis is a very contagious disease and one with some terrible outcomes possible.
