It's not healthy to feed any dog table scraps but most people do it. Just make sure you do it in small doses. Too much is going to make your dog a rolly polly.

I guess that would have to depend on what you feed it. At one point, I had six dachshunds. My mom would make them eggs sometimes, and also mix in chicken broth and scraps with their food. None of them were ever overwewight.
My grandmother on the other hand has a longhaired dachshund who has never had anything but human food since the day she got her. The dog eats better than most people.. its either chicken, ham, or steak. Always meat though.. every night. The dog is not overweight.. its probably better for her than all of the horrible dog food out there that most people feed their dogs.. Everyone looks for a value and they dont really know how bad certain dog foods can be. I suggest doing it in moderation, or just feeding the dog healthy food.. as long as its truly healthy, the dog wont gain that much weight.

You should do research, and find out which foods are toxic to dogs. There are some that you wouldn't think of that humans can eat, but dogs can't. Human food is okay for dogs as treats every once in a while. But too many table scraps can cause a dog to become over weight, and sometimes can cause an upset stomach. Being over wieght can cause a lot of health issues for any dogs, but it is especially important to keep your dachshund at a healthy weight because of there long backs. When a dachshund carries around too much weight it is very hard on their backs, and it causes them to be even more suseptable to back injuries.

The answer is a definitive no. They don't get the nutrition THEY Need out of table scraps, and doing that can create some bad habits you may not like alot later. If you feed them scraps, do it as a treat and not everyday, but give them dog food for their health.

Ok...I know this is a personal story and doesnt really apply to all dogs, but Im sure some will find it interesting. Growing up, I had a Lab that never ate a bowl of dog food in its life. It ate whatever we ate. And if we ate out, my mom made it sandwiches. That dog lived for 16 years and every time we took it to the vet, she did nothing but dote upon how beatuiful her coat was and how heathy she was. When out dog passed away my mom told our vet that she ate people food her whole life, the woman nearly **** a brick. We had never told her that before bc she was a "science diet preacher." As long as the animal gets what it needs and has lots of exercise and lives healthy, I dont see why it can have a few pieces of chicken or some rice every once in a while. Obviously some things are out of the question - chocolate and someone told me grapes one time - but thats besides the point. Kepp it healthy, go to the vet regularly, and dont feed her too much bc she will get fat.

It isn't healthy to feed any dog (or any pet for that matter) table scraps. They not only run the risk of becoming overweight, but the food can lodge in their throats causing them to choke to death.

Stick to a veterinarian approved food for your pet. Just be sure to stay away from all table scraps and make sure any visitors to your home follow this rule as well.

I would say No to be on the safe side. You def. do not want a dashund to get over weight. You need to watch that breed! If a daschund becomes overweight, this puts a great deal of stress on their back. It will cause your dog to have back problems. I just would avoid table scrapes, and hopefully you wont have to worry so much about weight problems.

Table scraps are fine as long as you know your dog very well. Some things to remember when giving your dog table sraps:

(1) Be aware of their allergies and do not feed a dog something they are allergic to. A dog that has never experienced a wide variety of food may not know they are allergic to something, and they could drop dead in seconds from that alone.
(2) Never feed your dog chocolate - it dissolves their stomach and kills them
(3) NEVER feed them boiling hot or fresh hot food. Always let the food cool down to at LEAST room temperature, if not cooler. Dogs can quickly overheat and die from excessive temperatures, and for very hot and boiling items, can be scalded on the inside of their throats and stomachs and never know they have been harmed until they just suddenly drop dead.
(4) Conversely, NEVER feed them ICE COLD food as well - especially ice cream. Think about how you get a head rush from eating something cold. They get a BODY rush from eating something cold, and if they cant regulate their body temperature correctly, they die.

So overall, just be careful and you should be fine.

I have a dachshund and I feed him table scraps. Just not alot. You don't want him to get fat. They have enough with there backs. Mine is only 11 pounds. So as long as you dont feed him just table scraps and just give him a little treat every now and then he should be fine.

I feel it not okay to feed any dog table scraps. 1st of all, this will instill the need to beg and it's not healthy. Dachshund's tend to get overweight and that places a burden on little heart and organs.
