To me it doesnt make sense to ask the question as its normally phrased by rather challenged individuals here and in biology but this makes it worthwhile to ask.
If God made man to have souls and be the whole point of creation, then why are they there, we don't eat them like cows (normally), so why?
I won't even get in to the coincidence of the similar DNA. I want to know what people think.

To DLM - the answer why there are still monkeys if we had them as a common ancestor is asking like if you had a grandfather why do cousins exist - it is literally as threatening to evolution as that question is to families. Please go learn what evolution is. :-)

Oh dear, oh dear. Can't anyone see that the question asked this way around does more damage to creationism than the other way does to evolution? Look at my other answers to see what my own opinions are if you're incapable of detecting sarcasm and parody.

Since we share a common ancestor and natural selection optimizes each species for its environment we can only conclude there there was evolutionary pressure for us to change and not so much for our cousins.
Oh wait. If god made man. Maybe he needed a few tries before he got it right. Do-over!

Don't you mean chimps? We are related to a lot of things but chimps and us are pretty damn close. We are close to monkeys too but not that that close.
Uh and umm you've never been out of the country have you? I mean your wrong about people not eating apes. People eat them. A lot sometimes.
They are here because they are a close but separate branch related to us. They are here because they are. Do u ask why there are fish in the sea? Why can't it be empty pool? Why are there birds in the air? I don't want to fly my plane into a falcon. Why is there a gorilla on the ground? Come on its an animal just like us.
I don't even see your point. You have to be clearer than this....

So that we could conduct scientific and medical experiments on a human facsimile, rather than using actual people.
Who would have been the fist U.S. astronaut if we didn't have chimps (the Russians beat us to the idea of using a dog)?

don't some primitive people in some parts of the world eat them? I'm sure I've seen it on the Discovery Channel or NGC.

From the other side-if man evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?
Shouldn't they have evolved too?
If God made man, why couldn't he have decided to make monkeys, too?
I don't quite see the point of the eating question. That kind of depends on your culture. In some countries they do eat monkeys, and in others they don't eat cows.

Moot question - souls are imaginary figments of mankind's imagination. Therefore, your question is pointless.

For the same reason that he created sea life that we will never eat.......... God is a creator. Hey if you had ultimate power, you'd want to use it for more than one species too.
