I feel for you. I've gone through losing a pet a few times. Sixteen years is a long life for a cat. I know it's hard to let go. Love him while you can. And it's okay to cry. He's been a part of your life for as long as you've been alive.
My cat growing up got really sick one summer. I went on vacation with my friends and my mom really didn't think she would last the week. But that cat waited until I got home, she spent the day with me, found a nice place under the stairs in the basement and was dead the next day. She and I had a connection, and it seems that she wanted me to be there when she went. It was hard, but she was suffering so much. I cried almost the entire day.
They know you care.

My first cat died when he was about 16. It's part of life. It is so hard at first but eventually you move on. I really dont suggest going out and buying another cat they day they die, I have met people who did that. Also, if one is sick he may be going soon and since they are brothers and have lived together their whole lives it is likely that once one dies the other may stop eating from depression etc. So just ready yourself, their is nothing you can do but make sure they know they are loved. And if you think that it is really their time, dont take them to a vets office, they will be happier dieing at home where they are comfortable.

oh, sweetheart... what kind of talk is that? How do you know your cat is dying? he may be a sick with something right now, and what you need to do is take your sick kitty to the vet right away. Usually if the kitty is sick and you get him to vet early enough before he gets worse, the vet can usually help him get rid of whatever it is that is making the cat sick. So, when your mom gets home, DEMAND to take kitty to the vet becuase as pet owners ALL of you are responsible for its well-being... and that includes taking your pet to the vet when he is sick (just like you take a child to the doctor if he was sick). OK?

I felt the exact same way when it was time to put my cat that my parents bought when they got married. He was the friendliest cat ever and was always so happy. When it was time for him to go he didn't look happy so we knew he had to be put down. Sometimes I'm still sad but I know that he's happier so that makes me happier.
Here's what you DoN'T want to do...
My best friend has a dog that's wayyyy past due to be put to sleep. He can't even move and he's suffering yet her family looks for every reason to not put the dog to sleep.

It sounds like the first one might have diabetes are some other illness. Have your mom and dad take that cat to the vet. Maybe it needs antibiotics or if it's diabetic, they can decide whether or not to euthanize it. The other cat is probably fine.

You'll be sad for a while. But it will pass. I'm not sure, but if cats are like dogs & 1 of our years = 7 of theirs, your cats are over 112 years old. I wouldn't want to be 112 years old. Would you?

I totally understand. My dog was 16 when I was 13. The worst thing happened, she was so old that she couldn't walk, she couldn't willingly eat, and I didn't even get to say good-bye. Love them while they are here and pray for them while they are gone. Remember that they love and loved you.

Well hon, your cats have lived long happy lives. They have been loved and given you lots of love. I know how hard it is to see a pet go, it is part of your family, but this is how life is. There are ends and there are beginnings. Love your baby now and spend as much time with him near the end as you can, he knows how much you love him. I'm sorry.
