Quick Question...
I'm flying into LGB on Sunday morning... then I gotta get
to a hotel near LAX, so we can fly out to Hawaii the next morning.
Anyone know what the easiest/cheapest way to get from LGB to LAX? I don't really want to rent a car just to make the 30 mile trek... but I also know that it might be just as much as a taxi ride. And I don't know if there are different "rules" on Sunday (if all the regular public transportation still runs). And public transportation takes HOURS.

Grab a shuttle like Super Shuttle or PrimeTime.

Renting a car from the airport can be much cheaper than a shuttle service, especially if there are more than two of you. I just rented a car from LAX for $14/day, and including all charges, less than $20/day! This doesn't include collision damage waiver (likely covered by your credit card) nor liability (likely covered by your own car insurance). The two airports are close enough that if you get a car with full tank at LGB, the gauge will still read full when you arrive at LAX! Just make sure that there is no additional charge to pick up and drop off at two different locations. And of course, print out very detailed driving instructions and a map!

The shuttle is probably your best option, but it is possible to go by public transit. It will run on Sunday, and it will be more like an hour and a half than hours (plural).

If you wanted to take public transit, you'd take the Long Beach City bus (#111) to the downtown Long Beach transit mall. Catch the Metro blue line, and ride north to Rosa Parks station. Transfer to the green line, and go west to Aviation station, where you'll board the free shuttle to LAX. Your hotel shuttle probably boards in the same bus bay area at LAX where the green line shuttle bus will arrive.

when you get to the aviation station, call your hotel sometimes
they will pick you up at the Green Line statiin
or if your hotel is on Century you can transfer to either
the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus or Culver city bus (both buses
have the same routes as far as Manchester and Sepuleveda
which is north of Lax.
just remember when you board the Long Beach transit
bus you can pay 90cents +50cents for a inter-agency transfer
(which you can use for both the metro Blue Line and Green Lines and then give to the Blue Bus or Culver city bus operator

I concur with tonalc1 - a shuttle service will be your cheapest best bet. Otherwise, get a car service if you have the cash to spend.
