ask your doctor.
amoxicillin should have been prescribed by a doctor. If not, don't take it.
Seriously, you should never ask for medical advice like this on Yahoo answers. The risk for serious injury is too great.

It's a different catagory of the penicillinaise drugs, so yes, it's pretty much related. I do however agree with the other people....a doctor or pharmacist is the best person to contact regarding antibiotics. Now you also have to remember that all antibiotics aren't the same......so what ever is the problem for you, amoxicillin may not be the best antibiotic for it....if you have a bacterial infection. So only take antibiotics that are prescribed for you....never for anyone else. Also, you have to take antibiotics over a certain number of days....this isn't like an aspirin...you can't just take one or two. You do this...and then the bacterial infection could become resistant to the antibiotics........and eventually this could spell some trouble for you. I wish you the best of luck.

Amoxicillin is meant to be given to people who are allergic to pennicillin. I actually think its called floxacillin. Don't take my word for it though, I may have misheard. My sister is allergic to pennicillin just like you,and they gave her amoxicillin the next time she was ill. But to be honest if i were you, I'd go to your doctors and ask them.
Also, it may be a good idea to get one of those special bracelets/ necklaces, that have your allergy details in them. I'm not sure how much they cost, but I'm sure you'd rather have one of those and your life, than have an allergic reaction if they gave you the wrong drug. Medical professionals all over the world are trained to look for the bracelet/necklace if they are tending to someone in an event of an emergency.
But seriously, google it, I'm sure it'll come up with something. They do a variety of different ones so you can get one to suit your particular style. they do ones for kids too, so you could get one for a family member or friend who has any allergies, heart problems etc.

NO!NO!NO!
Amoxicillin is another type of penicillin. It's in the same group and shares many of the same molecular structures. This would be a very bad idea. There are many kinds of penicillins.
Also, be careful about taking cephalosporins such as Ceclor or Keflex. There are numerous cephalosporins as well. They are related to penicillins and there is a 10-15% chance that you are also allergic to cephalosporins-especially if you have difficulty breathing, or swelling with penicillins.
But, don't worry. There are many alternative antibiotics that are not related to penicillins at all.

No. I'm also allergic to penicillin and amoxicillin is the same thing just a generic version of it. The "cillin" in any antibiotic means that they are the same type of drug. Try using Zethromax. They have this really neat one day treatment that you drink. It taste like crap, but it does work.

Most people allergic to pennicillin are advised not to take any of the "cillin" medications. There is also some known allergies to cephalosporin medications as well...so no, I would not take the amox.

Amoxicillin has a bit wider spectrum of activity, but it doesn't matter to you because if you're allergic to one, you'll react to the other as well.

Amoxicillin and penicillin are the same family
If you allergic to one member, then you will be allergic to other members
Amoxicillin is orally->may may be less than penicillin which take i.v. (intervenous)

they are the same thing... well amoxicillin is a form of penicillin; if you are allergic to one you will be to amox as well; and you may want to be checked for the cross sensitivity to the cephalosporin group as well especially if you had a severe reaction to penicillin. safety first.

Like everyone above said. "Cillin" drugs are in the same class of antibiotics. You'd have to go with Erythomicin or others ending with 'micin'
