I hate hearing recordings of myself speaking, I think I sound like I've got a slight lisp, and there's too much 's' sounds in my voice.
Is it possible to improve your voice (I'm not talking about accents), to sound clear and competent, like say a news reader?

Yes, definitely you can improve your voice quality.
Watch news and listen to the newscasters and learn. Then practice. You can help yourself a great deal if you try.

you may connect a Barbershop making a track employer if there is one on your area. Log onto the Barbershop cohesion association. or you may bypass on line to purchase a CD with voice workouts.

Yes. Take enunciation lessons. There are also accent coaches as well.
