I have an appointment to get a tattoo on my lower back it is about 6 inches long and 2 inches tall and will be centered on my back. I am excited but was just wondering about the pain level. My boyfriend and I are going to get tattoos together so he will be there to distract me. I got my nipples pierced and that hurt, but the pain went away after about two hours. So how bad will the lower back tat hurt??

The only thing that hurt worse than my thigh tattoo was my nipple piercing. Which fell out before it healed, and I said "good riddance" If you can deal with having your nipples pierced you you should be fine, I can't imagine anything hurting worse than that.

Errrr, well I can think of a few things, but I would never do them willingly. :)

My lower back tattoo hurt...especially over the spine, but I also have several others, top of foot and ankle and those hurt worse. I would think if you could stand having the feet done, the lower back won't be too bad! Good luck...it's a very cute tattoo!!

It depends on the tatoo artist and your pain tolerance. If the tatoo artist is heavy handed then it could be very painful. If you are relaxed and don't have a lot of black detail (that hurts the most for some reason)or outline, then you will have a little pain for however long it takes to actually do the tatoo. You will experience more itching than pain, and please be careful about the location in relation to where your pants sit on your hips--the rubbing could irritate the area too. All in all it is pretty painless except when it is getting done.

I've heard they hurt worse than any other tattoo due to the fact that the nerves are right there at the skin on the spine. Still I plan on getting mine done soon there..:-)
hope this helps and happy tattooing!

it hurts - i won't lie to you since i have a back peice done. It really depends on your pain tolerance levels. Every tattoo will hurt in some way. But besides the pain, you will get addicted to tattoos - i love em'.

The pain isn't too bad...had one 2 days ago on the side. It's not the most comfortable feeling but your skin kind of gets used to the feeling after awhile and it doesn't hurt and it's not as agonizing as you would initially think...

it hurts but not bad enough to make it not worth the pain. having someone there to talk to you will definitely distract from the pain.
