If it helps him take the pill happily, go for it. I work in a veterinary hospital and we use food to sneak them medication all the time. It just puts less stress on them.

Absolutely! Dogs love peanut butter...so much that pet stores now created strips of peanut butter as dog treats. There is no harm in a dog getting peanut butter, and honestly he will probably take the meds much more willingly with the peanut butter. Oh and a great treat for dogs is kongs filled with peanut butter and frozen overnight...keeps the dogs busy for hours and kongs are warranted as indestructable. Give it a try!

Peanut butter is the only way I can get my dog to take medicine.
She wont give a pill in my hand the time of day, but let their be some peanut butter on it, whole different story. Plus its pretty hilarious to see them lick their chops upteen times.

If the dog has eaten peanut butter previously with no problems than go for it! Good luck! Dogs are good at finding the meds and just eating the treat :D

Most definitely. Many of the dog treats that are commercially available use peanut butter as a key ingredient.

I used to give it to my dog all the time, and it worked great! I called it a "peanut butter pill."

Yes, my vet told me to do this when I had a puppy with Kennel Cough. I had a rabbit with the sniffles too, and since he was so small we had to get his prescription filled at the hospital pharmacy as they could make the right dose for him. The pharmacist specialises in animal medications on the side, and makes different flavours for pets. He made my bunny peanut butter antibiotics, and someone came in to collect marshmallow flavour for their cat. He also had a special machine for making treats with pills/medication in them. My bunny loved his medicine, but I felt pretty dumb picking up a prescription for Bunny the Rabbit.

Yes...I do it all the time with my dog. She hates her heart worm medicine so I put some peanut butter on it and its way easier then pinning her down and trying to get her to swollow it!

Yes its okay. You can also try bread, lunch meat, or sliced cheese. My vet said that all those are okay. Peanut butter wont hurt him. Oh and if you do the slice cheese don't give them more than a slice. It can cause them to have the runs.

yes it is and it is what the vet will recommend. however, my dogs have found a way to lick off the peanut butter and then they spit out the pill. i have a pom who has a thyroid condition and needs meds very day. i like to wrap it in a little bit of deli turkey breast. i tear off one peice to give him, then wrap a pill in the meat and give it to him, and then one last little peice. my dogs love it so much that they think it is treat time when they see the pill bottles.
