What are the possible side effects of Asacol?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using Asacol and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

severe stomach pain, cramping, fever, headache, and bloody diarrhea.
Continue using Asacol and talk with your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects:

mild nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, gas;
fever, sore throat, or other flu symptoms;
constipation;
headache or dizziness;
tired feeling; or
skin rash.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

It does not say that rectal itching and burning is a side effect. Call the pharmacy were you filled the prescription and see if they know if it is a side effect not mentioned above.
