If you love animals PETA is your worse enemy!!!
If they have their way there will be no such thing as a domestic animal. Not for a pet, not for a service animal, not to eat,,, nothing!!!!
It would sure be nice if we lived in a perfect world, but we don't.
Maybe it is because my wife works for child protective services, but it upsets me when people get so worried about cruelty to animals when children are being beaten every day.

It is a sad reality, but at least half (or more) of all dogs in shelters end up being euthanized. That is why it is so important for people to volunteer at their shelter, and help get these dogs adopted out.
Don't feel bad about donating money to PETA, just because 2 of their 'volunteers' were idiotic and dumped animals in a dumpster in Virginia. Yes, it is sad they did that, but I can guarantee you that even your local shelter is doing MANY things that are even worse than that on a regular basis. Luckily, the 2 PETA volunteers are being prosecuted for dumping the animals, so again, don't worry about it too much. The best thing you can do is volunteer at your own shelter and learn more about what they do there....you will be surprised.
Also, everyone please keep an eye out for dogs that are left in the cold. If you notice a neighbor with their dog outside, it is below freezing (37 degrees), and the dog doesn't have an insulated dog house, please call your local law enforcement to make an official report. Being in the freezing cold hurts!!

Push your state reps to rally for stiffer penalties for those convicted of animal abuse of any kind. Do not purchase fur goods to lower the demand. Business is all about supply and deman and if there is no demand for fur... Lead by example, treat your animals well and hopefully others will follow. Volunteer at your local animal shelter or donate to your local animal shelter. If you eat meat, purchase meat from socially conscious farmers where the animals are allowed free range and aren't filled with antibiotics. Again, supply and demand....

Get all your friends and family to write your local congress, to work on stiffer laws in your state..We need to increase jail time and fines for these heartless people...Reporting any signs of abuse or neglect, will help take the animal out of the situation..Also educating people on how to properly take care of an animal..You'd be surprised how many people just " don't know" how to care for an animal. I'm a preschool teacher and spent alot of time educating my kids on how to be a "good" pet owner, and what to do if they see a sick or injured animal....If we teach people when they are young, hopefully we can help them learn to love and protect all animals...Here's hoping!

Unfortunately, people suck so it will keep happening. It's sickening and heart-wrenching, I agree. And you can't save them all, but you can try to educate others by setting an example as the posters above me suggested. Volunteer at a shelter, adopt from a shelter, if you see cruelty report it, donate to reliable animal charities.

Go to your local shelter and volunteer. That way, you can at least make sure that the abandoned pups and cats in your area are cared for properly. Thats a start, and Im sure the shelter would love the help.

Adopt a stray from the pound. Get them spayed or neutered if the pound doesn't do it. Keep them inside your house, they'll live longer and won't be subjected to the hazards of outdoors. Volunteer to help spread the message of spay and neuter.
