This can be expected, with terrifying realization that the Islamic terrorism has been growing stronger despite world powers like USA staging wars against it.

We have almost made it inevitable what with communal politics holding a grip on each country, helping terrorists to operate at will. It's high time we listened to terrorists and made some tough compromises instead of applying force which has been a failure always. I believe terrorists operate not without a purpose and it's in the hands of we civilians to decide how that purpose would be fulfilled- by violence or by peace. Should we choose the former, the mankind is at great peril and could be lost forever !

****, McBob, it's not just Islam...All religious have their fanatics...This is why religion is BAD, m'kay?

As for the atomic bomb - Why does everyone think the sky is falling?

Let's see, we had the first World Trade Center bombing(Feb 26, '93, 6 dead, 1042 wounded), the '98 Embassy Bombings (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya, on Aug. 7, '98, 257 dead, approx. 4000 wounded), the USS Cole( Oct 12, '00, 17 dead, 39 wounded)...Then 9/11(Sep 11, '01, 2973 dead, unknown # wounded)....And ALL of them were orchistrated by Al Qaida...

That's, what, four major terrorist attacks against the United States in almost twenty years? Orchistrated, all of them, by a group we've all but driven to the ground and annihilated?

We're waging two wars to, when it all boils down, combat this organization(primarily), and others like it (secondary).

We have massively increased the security of our nation's seaports, airports, and borders.

We have immesurabley increased the paranoia of the average citizen(As evidenced by this question), which, while annoying, does, undoubtedly, end up resulting in some useful information for law enforcement agencies.

We have drastically increased the inter-service cooperation, and thus, the overall effectiveness, of the NSA, CIA, FBI, ATF, DOD, DHS, Secret Service, Border/Customs Control, local and state law enforcement agencies, and all the other plethora of law enforcement and national security agencies this nation has.

Now, throw in how, realistically, how rare weapons-grade materials are, especially less on the free market(NOBODY who has nukes wants them floating around...Europe...Russia...US...India...Pakistan..China...NOBODY wants Mr. Mujahblajahjihaddurkadurka or [insert random fanatical group here] to get their hands on them, thus, there are *incredibly* massive amounts of security surrounding them EVERYWHERE, not just the United States) ...How difficult it is to build an atomic device (Materials, facilities, specialists), and then transport it into the United States, keep it quiet, and detonate it somewhere?

One in a billion.

It's a feat in and of itself that the World Trade Center attacks (The '93 bombing, and the 9/11 attacks) happened at all..But then again, those were all relatively simple plots, in planning and execution...Especially the 9/11 attacks. Yeah...Sneak a few guys on an aircraft with the motivation to die for their cause, give them some small blades that won't get taken, and tell them to fly the planes into a big building....Nowhere near as complex as obtaining the materials for an atomic weapon, finding the specialists to manufacture it, and the facilities to manufacture it in, then smuggling it into the United States, and detonating it?

Throw in that there'd be a lot more moral qualms, if at all possible amongst fanatics of Al-Qaeda's ilk, with a nuclear attack, than a 'conventional' bombing....One in a billion, if that.

This isn't '24' or 'The Agency', folks. There's not some new terrorist plot that, if successful, could bring the United States to her knees, every week.

People always say that how great it is that we haven't been hit since 9/11. These guys take their time, after the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993, it was seven years, more or less, until they finished what they started.
With the failure of their plan in regards to flight 93, they no doubt are planing to hit and finish off that job (the Capitol, or the White House, no one seems sure which was the intended target).
So, I suppose we should expect something around next year. Some say they have nukes already here (Paul L Williams for one). Nuclear material, like anything can be had for a price. Pray that I'm wrong.

I imagine that if the Democrats get power we'll stand a much greater risk just based on history. Look what happened during Jimmy Carter's presidency and what happened when Reagan took over. Then while Clinton is president we teach terrorists to fly so they can kill people in the thousands later on.

You'll notice that after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 that were put into motion under Clinton that we haven't had any more attacks in our country. Just wait a while after the appeasement of the democrats starts up to see how seriously they take us. Perhaps other countries don't like Bush because he fights back instead of hiding in the corner and offering appeasement?

However, I doubt we'll ever see a nuclear attack from the Terrorists. They simply don't have the delivery systems and I don't think they could effectively build a bomb. Nor could they get one smuggled into this country.

It is a scary thought, most major cities employ radiation detection for that reason, I would be more concerned about a European or Asian country getting hit if only because it would be easier to transport across those borders. The sad thing is that if something major happens again, many people will still blame the US because we "made them mad", rather than realizing that we are truly up against some evil people

All the trouble with Muslims started with the start of the Bushs Era !! Islam been around for more than 1500 years, but only a few years ago the issues surface. I'll leave for you to analyze but I would say that it's competition on oil between the US and Europe, things got worse when Saddam decided to exit this race and go on his own against the US will. He got executed on TV !!! Bottom line, I agree with the previous fellow, if the Bush's are gone and we get a real president who's not blood thursty and want to address the real issues of our country, the fear of harm will fade away and nothing will happen. there is no single islamic belief against a country,, it just doesn't exist. It happens that the US intrest is in the Middle East region which is filled with oil and happens to be majority muslim.. But this can happen anywhere. North Koria is far from being muslim and they are even closer to launhing a Nuk to hit the west coast of the US...

Hate to sound racist, but it's the facts, these guys can not be negotiated with, unless you include by bullets and bombs.
They'll probably hit the hoover dam first, all my money says, take out half of our power in the west, then from there...we're sku-rewed. Only a matter of time.

How long before we stop prefacing our terms with "fringe" or "extremist" or "radical" and just refer to Islam? The terrorists kill unbelievers wherever they find them because the Koran says "kill the unbelievers wherever ye may find them." They behead people because the Koran says "chop off their heads and their fingertips." They think they will be rewarded if they are martyred because the Koran says that Allah will provide for those who trade this life and possessions for the other while striving for Allah.

Christian extremists read "I am the one true God" and a tiny group of them might think it means kill or subdue everyone else. I'm not a fan of this either. But Muslim extremists read "kill everyone else" and think it means kill everyone else.

At some point we as a society need to confront the fact that the terrorists are just doing what the Koran said - and for that matter, what Muhammad spent his life doing. Muhammad killed thousands of people - some in battles, which for the most part he started - but mostly in raids on innocent neighboring villages that didn't follow Islam. He truly was the Hitler of his time.

I have issues with Christianity and with many of the things that have been done by Christians but Jesus didn't murder anyone and never commanded his followers to kill anyone.

As long as US continues their interference, there's always a good chance.

ADD. Why some of you people continuing to enforce the hate-rat between man kind. It's pathetic and shameful. Islam never intended to attack any one or country, wise up and give up this stupidity ! educate yourself and refer to history. All these events started since US started to be a bully and make profit and get free oil from other nations. Of course, this will never stops as long as other nations are imposed upon. I hate this more than any of you, but when some of you bone heads talk about patriotism and still expecting other nations to keep quite. you are ridicules !
