huh? It is sponges. And the answer is the same as it is now, except for the polar ice melting.

It'd be the same depth. The sponges were "born" in the ocean, so they didn't really suck up any water. If they had all been dry and then thrown into the ocean, it would maybe be slightly shallower. I would think that sea sponges being in the ocean as they are right now actually makes it deeper because there is more mass in the water.

A sponge doesn't make the water disappear.. it just holds it.. no different than putting an empty glass in the sink.. it doesn't make the level of the sink go down.. In fact due to the small volume of the glass, the water level actually rises. The same is true if you took all the sea sponges out of the sea (even squeeze em out good not to take any water..) the level of the sea would go down (very very slightly) because you removed something that otherwise displaces water.

Technically it would be more shallow, not deeper without the sponges as thier body mass displaces water....
