As a TV engineer I would sugest that you have an internal problem. As this is a new set contact Curries under your gaurantee.

You do not state if the Hum is on the sound or from the set itself.

If the hum is on the sound try disconecting everthing but the aerial. (DVD, Digibox, etc)
Does the problem go away. If so try re-routing the cables and make sure the plugs and sockets are tight and secure.

If the hum is from the set then a loose transformer is more likely contact Curries.

Televisions shouldn't give off an anoying hum. If you can hear a hum it's a fault. Either a faulty transformer or a dud audio amplifier. Havings said that, a very high pitched faint 'whistle' is normal in some sets. You'd have to have good hearing to be aware of that though.

Take it back for a replacement and don't let the salesman give you any bullshit.

If this is a plasma television, then it's perfectly normal. If it is an LCD, then their might be a problem with your fans. Also, to one of the above posters, the "Noise Reduction" setting reduces distortion from the signal. It doesn't literally reduce audible noise.

Some models just do that. It will not stop. If it is going to be bothersome then I would suggest trading it in on a different model.
Good luck

the respond is very complicated, this is called co-channel interference, however the answer is extremely easy, turn the brightness and or shade down so as that its does not bypass into saturation. The video archives by using fact of it length relative to the linked sound is crossing into that section that's allotted to the sound channel. purely turn the video factor down.

Not sure what causes it but mine has a noise reduction selection - found in the "picture" section of the set-up menu. (Hitachi)
